Singer-songwriter Bill Popp, a fixture of the New York and Tri-State Area music scene for over 50 years and frontman of Bill Popp and The Tapes, is hosting a "Singles Party." Just don't show up looking for romance. Guests can leave their dating profiles at home—there's no need to dress to impress. This singles party is all about celebrating the release of Popp’s latest single, “Jenny.” To keep with the Singles theme, the afternoon will feature a slate of notable artists from Astoria and surrounding neighborhoods, with each performer playing exactly one single song. The main featured song of the event, "Jenny," marks a unique departure for Popp, pairing his piano and lead vocals with a real string quartet. “Recording ‘Jenny’ was different from anything I’ve ever done,” says Popp. “I’ve always dreamed of having a real string quartet—not synthesized strings—on one of my songs, and ‘Jenny’ was the perfect fit.” The track features a string arrangement by Adam von Housen, who also recorded both violin parts and viola for the song, alongside cellist Katie Chambers.

Meet The band
Singer/songwriter Bill Popp is a fixture on the New York City rock scene. He has been performing live in NYC venues since the 1970s, and he has been leading his own band, Bill Popp & the Tapes, since 1981. There have been many different Tapes lineups over the years; the current lineup has been together since 2001 and consists of Popp on lead vocals and keyboards, Gerry Barnas on guitar and background vocals, Mary Noecker on bass and background vocals and Roger Foster on drums and background vocals.
An original music veteran of early 60's rock influences, the legendary alternative pop composer and member of the Recording Academy-(NARAS), Bill Popp, in the classic tradition of The Beatles, REM, and XTC, delivers melodic hooks, combined with dance grooves and poetic, infectious punk. Drunk with harmony, his clever lyrics for the broken hearted, and his passionate piano phrasing keep a timeless hold on the hearts of his fans.
